Chinwah: Showcase your talent in Huntley variety show

So, you think you can dance? How about singing?

Do you fancy yourself as the next American Idol? Perhaps you have some other talent, like baton twirling or ventriloquism.

Auditions have been announced for the Huntley Education Foundation’s fourth annual variety showcase. The show is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in the Huntley High School Performing Arts Center.

Auditions will take place in the high school choir room from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10. Auditions are open to all ages and there are no residency restrictions. All acts must be complete, but do not need to be polished at the time of audition.

A piano and a CD player will be available but performers need to supply their own accompanist. Singers may use a karaoke CD but may not audition using a CD with original vocals on it. The foundation is especially seeking unusual acts.

To schedule an audition, call Kim Skaja at (815) 923-8810 or e-mail kskaja158@district158.org.

Dual language update: Orientation for the Community Unit District 300 dual language program will be held for parents of students entering kindergarten this fall at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb 2, at Liberty Elementary School, 6500 Miller Road, Carpentersville. The program is open to both English and Spanish speakers.

The goal of this research-based, two-way language initiative is to develop a high level of achievement in listening, speaking, reading and writing in two languages for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

The program strives to promote bilingualism and bi-literacy while promoting positive attitudes, knowledge and appreciation of other cultures and their languages. It also helps students to meet or exceed the state learning standards in all subject areas.

For details, call Liberty Elementary School at (224) 484-4800 or Raul Menchacha at the District 300 Title Office, (847) 551-8324.
