Algonquin Tutoring Center offers extra help for students
Jas Kahlon's two sons encouraged her to open a tutoring center so children who needed a little extra help in school could get the assistance they needed.
When Kahlon looked around for the perfect spot, she chose Algonquin, along the Randall Road corridor, to open The Tutoring Center.
“I chose the Algonquin area because of the proximity to three school districts, Kahlon said.
“The current class size has left teachers not being able to make provisions for every child in the classroom no matter how much they would love to, and that's why I felt the need for an affordable supplemental educational service for our community.
“My goal is to build a relationship with the schools and teachers so we can work together in creating more confident students, she said.
Kahlon, the center's director, is hosting an open house Oct. 29 to introduce the community to her center, which opened eight months ago at 128 S. Randall Road.
From 4 to 7:30 p.m., visitors can stop by the center to see what it has to offer.
There also will be fun and games for kids and adults.
The Tutoring Center will be hosting a costume contest for children. Adults can dress up too, Kahlon added.
There also will be games and treats.
In addition to touring the center, guests also can sign up for a free diagnostic assessment and ask staff members questions that evening.
The Tutoring Center is a franchise, with 60 different centers across the country.
“The first center was opened in Ventura County, California in 1994 by Dr. Thalheimer, who developed an innovative system to keep children focused while learning, Kahlon said. “His method was originally developed to help children with various attentional, behavioral, and learning problems and was then expanded to help all students. This is the number one reason I chose The Tutoring Center because the results are amazing.
The center works with students from prekindergarten through high school in the areas of math, reading, writing, homework and study skills, ACT test preparation and more.
They also offer a kindergarten readiness program.
The tutoring sessions are available Monday through Friday. Children can go two to three times per week, or every day for the homework and study skills program, she said.
To contact the center, call (847) 458-1005 or go to www.tutoringcenter.com.
