Judson baseball team off to nationals

Nick Krisman broke the Judson single-season record for wins in a season Friday when he pitched the Eagles to a 6-4 win over Olivet Nazarene in the NCCAA North Central Regional, a win that gave Judson the automatic bid to the NCCAA World Series in Mason, Ohio beginning Wednesday.

Krisman (9-2) with 5 innings for the win and was relieved by Ben Palmer and TJ Swank, who earned his sixth save of the season.

Johnny Amann hit his eighth home run of the season for the Eagles, who posted their 42nd win of the year. Brian Brauer and Swank each had 2 hits and Matt McHenry hit hix sixth home run of the season. Josh Raymond also had an RBI.

Baseball

ECC sweeps: The Elgin Community College baseball team needs just one win today to advance to the Region IV finals next weekend at McHenry County College. The Spartans beat Sauk Valley 5-0 and Morton 9-4 in sectional play Friday and play Morton at noon today. One ECC win will send the Spartans to MCC next weekend with a chance to qualify for the NJCAA World Series, which ECC has qualified for in five of the past seven seasons.

In Friday’s win over Sauk Valley, Andy Grunewald fired the shutout for the Spartans, scattering 8 hits while striking out 7 and walking none. Justin Kalusa was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and Tom Roth had 2 hits for ECC.

The Spartans (39-14) then overcame 4 errors to beat Morton. Kalusa, Brady Renner and Ryan Burke each had 2 hits and Craig Lipp threw 6 innings for the win. Luc Geier picked up the save.

CCAC all-conference: Judson University had five players recognized by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Brian Brauer (Streamwood), Johnny Amann (Jacobs), TJ Swank (Prairie Ridge) and Nate Rohl were named to the first team and Mike Krisman to the second team.

Softball

Judson eliminated: The Judson softball team was eliminated from the NCCAA World Series in Botetourt, Va., Friday with a 6-2 loss to Cedarville University. Erin Stankus, Nicole Dimiceli and Brittany Holm each had 2 hits for the Eagles (32-17) with Holm and Dimiceli each driving in a run. Sarah Boyer suffered the loss in the circle.
