Hearing continued in Harper attack case

The hearing for a Harper College student accused of seriously injuring a college police officer last October has been rescheduled to Feb. 2 at the Rolling Meadows courthouse.

Jay Dixon, 22, of the 500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, Wheeling, was charged with aggravated battery and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. According to prosecutors, a crowd had gathered around a girl dancing provocatively on the Palatine campus.

When Harper officers tried to disperse them, police said Dixon got in a scuffle with one of the officers, who hit his head, suffered a fractured skull and still hasn't returned to work. Authorities said Dixon has skipped four court appearances for two ongoing cases.

He spent five days in jail for theft in 2007 and received supervision for possession of cannabis in 2005. Dixon's original $200,000 bond was reduced to $75,000 on Dec. 3.
