State Senate, Dist. 28: Millner

Voters in Illinois state Senate District 28 will choose Nov. 2 between incumbent Republican John Millner and Democratic challenger Corinne Pierog to represent an area including all or parts of Schaumburg, Bartlett, Roselle, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, St. Charles and Wayne.

Millner, of Carol Stream, is a former police chief who was elected to the state House in 2003 and has served in the Senate since 2005.

We don't agree with all his positions he remains a staunch supporter of red-light cameras, even for right turns but he is an open, responsive legislator with a reputation for reaching across the aisle.

He appears sincere in his push for a much-needed five-year spending plan for the state and we trust his vote against pension reform was truly because he viewed the proposal as “a half step.

Pierog, who currently serves on the St. Charles Unit District 303 school board, is an impressive candidate, but we would like to see her complete her first school board term before tackling a state post.

We endorse Millner.
