Wheeling gives Clancy first win

Wheeling's balanced attack helped John Clancy get his first victory as a boys basketball head coach 89-34 over Sullivan in Maine West's Warrior Classic on Wednesday night.

Tyler Shapiro led the Wildcats (1-1) with 14 points and freshman Jeremy Stephani scored 13 and hit two 3-pointers. Billy Jamie and Riley Harvey scored 12 points apiece and Charlie Kirk added 10.

St. Viator 45, Highland Park 33: Junior Kevin Walsh scored 22 points and hit six 3-pointers as St. Viator improved to 2-0 in its annual Thanksgiving tournament. D.J. Morris added 9 points on three 3s as the Lions led 30-17 at halftime.

If St. Viator beats Walther Lutheran on Friday it will play for the title at 5 p.m. Saturday against Conant (3-0), which beat Walther 69-56 on Wednesday.

Buffalo Grove 87, Holy Trinity 45: Nick Prus scored 15 points and hit three 3s to lead a balanced attack for BG (1-1) in its annual Bison Classic.

Luke Potnick, Richie Zirngibl and Ryan Inlow scored 12 points apiece and Tommy Ricciardi added 9 points.

Oak Park 80, Prospect 73: Prospect had a nice inside-outside offensive game going but it couldn't slow Oak Park-River Forest in the opener of the St. Patrick tournament.

Mike LaTulip scored 17 points and hit three 3s, Terry Redding had 16 points and two 3s and 6-6 Matt Loebbaka scored 17 points.

Grant DePalma added 8 points for the Knights, who trailed 38-30 at halftime and 56-46 after three.

Lake Park 57, Elk Grove 47: Elk Grove (1-2) cut a 30-19 halftime lead to 4 points on a couple of occasions but could get no closer in Fenton's 25th annual Chuck Mitchell Tournament.

“With their length we had a hard time finishing at the basket,” said Elk Grove coach Anthony Furman, “and we didn't go in real strong at times.”

Furman was pleased with the inside play of 6-2 junior Zack Solorio, who started after hitting 2 key free throws down the stretch in Tuesday's 54-50 win over Fenton.

Stevenson 54, Christian Liberty 20: Luke Comerouski scored 8 points for the Chargers (1-1), who trailed 31-12 at halftime and didn't score in the fourth quarter.
