Birthday presents for 329 needy kids at Lake Park school
In its mission to reach as many needy children as possible, Humanitarian Service Project was recently able to greatly expand its program and add 329 children from Lake Park Elementary School in Addison.
The children of Lake Park Elementary come from an economically poor area and 88 percent of the children receive subsidized lunches. HSP first added Lake Park Elementary to their Christmas program last year, giving Christmas gifts to all the children. The first shipment of Birthday Boxes went out in late February for the students with early March birthdays.
This recent partnership is made possible by the generous donations of HSP's supporters, as well as the time put in by HSP's volunteers. The Children's Birthday Project provides a child, age 3-11, with a 15-20 lb. Birthday Box containing 5-7 new books, 4-8 new toys, school supplies, stuffed animals, various other gifts such as bubbles, card games, mini toys, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party.
The child receives the birthday package the week of their birthday, and provides a memorable “Special Day” for an impoverished child in our community. A sponsorship for a child is only $54 and also includes gifts at Christmas time, back-to-school supplies, and the child's family becomes eligible for the HSP's summer-time Feed the Kids Program as well.

About The Humanitarian Service Project:
HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,616 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest poverty-stricken, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 900 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive that benefited a total of over 2,000 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair and directly to schools and individual children.
