Madison ends Elgin CC's season

The Elgin Community College baseball team saw its season come to an end Sunday in the finals of the Region IV tournament in Kankakee.

The Spartans, who had to beat Madison College twice in the double-elimination tournament, forced a deciding game by winning Sunday's opener 17-2. But then Madson pounded ECC 20-7 in the deciding game.

Alex VanNess won Game 1 for ECC, going 7 innings and allowing just 6 hits and 1 earned run. He struck out five and didn't walk anyone. Matt Revelle had a 3-run home run for the Spartans and drove in 5 runs.

Madison, which advanced to the NJCAA World Series in Enid, Okla., scored 9 runs in the first inning of Game 2 and ECC couldn't come back.

"I'm proud of the guys," said ECC coach Bill Angelo, whose team finished 37-20. "We were 5-1 when facing elimination and we just ran out of energy today. We played well down the stretch and I'm proud of the effort."
