Dunning, Grant sink Round Lake
Grant’s boys basketball team hadn’t played a game in December until Wednesday night.
The 10-day layoff didn’t affect Steve Dunning, apparently.
The senior forward scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, leading Grant to a 64-60 win over host Round Lake, which received 28 points from Karnell Wright.
Matt Malmburg added 10 points for the Bulldogs in their North Suburban Prairie Division opener. Round Lake (1-6, 0-2) led 12-8 after one quarter and was up 32-27 at halftime.
But Grant (4-1, 1-0) outscored the Panthers 20-10 in the third quarter to take a 47-42 lead into the fourth.
Round Lake got 8 points apiece from Robert Pisarski and Alex Green. Devan Bald had 8 points for Grant.
Vernon Hills 46, Lakes 42: Robby Nardini carried the host Cougars in the North Suburban Prairie contest, scoring 27 points to account for more than half of his team’s offense. He knocked down two 3-pointers and went 11 of 15 from the foul line.
Vernon Hills (6-1, 2-0) was up 13-7 after one quarter, 25-20 at halftime and 37-28 after three.
Lakes (1-6, 0-1) received 12 points from Ethan Sage and 10 from David Milostan, who hit two 3-pointers.
Lake Forest 65, Lake Zurich 62: Evan Boudreaux scored 28 points, hitting 13 of 14 free throws, as the visiting Scouts pulled out the North Suburban Lake game.
Mike Travlos’ 26 points led Lake Zurich (4-3, 1-1). Brad Kruse added 17 for the Bears.
North Chicago 114, Antioch 62: Kurt Hall had 25 points and 10 rebounds for the host Warhawks in the North Suburban Prairie blowout. JayQuan McCloud added 23 points.
Zion-Benton 46, Warren 43: The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 3-5 and 0-2 in the North Suburban Lake.
