Judson student musicians to showcase versatility
Judson University's Music Department has planned a series of concerts this fall that will showcase their students' talent while offering the public a chance to hear music ranging from the classics to the contemporary.
Judson's Community Orchestra will give a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, in the Herrick Chapel on Judson's Elgin campus, 1151 N. State St. The orchestra will perform Johannes Brahms' Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80 and Symphony Number 2 in D, Op. 73. The orchestra will also perform Guitar Concerto No. 1 in D, Op. 99 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco with Adam Huff as the featured guitar soloist.
Judson's Symphonic Band concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, in the Herrick Chapel will offer a Veterans Day Tribute, as the band performs Kenneth Alford's “The Vanished Army,” the “Band of Brothers Symphonic Suite” by Michael Kamen, and “The Planets, Mars, The Bringer of War” by Gustav Holst and John Williams music from “Saving Private Ryan.” Finally, Judson President Jerry Cain will narrate Aaron Copland's “Lincoln Portrait.”
The Judson University Chamber Singers with the Chamber Orchestra will hold a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, in the Herrick Chapel on Judson's Elgin Campus.
On Thursday, Dec. 9, three piano performance certificate students will give a marathon recital in Herrick Chapel at 1:30, 3 and 4:30 p.m., respectively. Sunkyung Koo, a Judson senior majoring in piano performance, will give her degree recital at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at the Alice and Edward Thompson Fine Arts Center.
Tickets are needed for concerts held at Judson. Tickets for the Judson Community are free as well as children under 12. Tickets for adults are $5 and for seniors and students, tickets are $2.50. For information, call the music office at (847) 628-1110.
