Exhibit your collections at McHenry museum
Everyone collects something. The McHenry County Historical Society's collections range from bottles to buttons, marbles to miniatures. They collect matchboxes, money, stamps, Legos, comic books and old cars, as well as gloves, baseballs, ball caps and baseball cards.
Copoclephilists collect key rings, bibliophilists collect books. And you? You might very well have some vinyl records and Star Wars figurines lying about the house.
The good news is you have a chance to show off that original Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" album cover or some other bits of memorabilia you've squirreled away.
During its 2016 season, the McHenry County Historical Society and Museum would like to showcase your collection on its museum stage at 6422 Main St. in Union.
The annual "Members Only" exhibit is not only open to current society members, but new members as well. Collections will remain on display from March through October.
Other requirements are as follows:
• The collection must fit into a locked display case measuring 45 inches high by 40 inches wide by 6 inches deep.
• Your collection must have a theme, but it does not necessarily have to relate to McHenry County history.
• Exhibitors are responsible for selecting a title and writing a short description about their collection and providing a list of items proposed for display.
The entry deadline is Friday, Jan. 15. To request an application, email exhibits curator Kira Halvey at kira@mchenrycountyhistory.org, call (815) 923-2267 or visit www.mchenrycountyhistory.org.
