Salvation Army of McHenry County to host free community pre-Thanksgiving meal

The Salvation Army, which is the largest direct provider of social services in Illinois, is hosting its second annual Community Pre-Thanksgiving Meal to combat hunger and loneliness for residents of McHenry County during the holiday season.

The event is free to all residents and will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at The Salvation Army, 290 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake.

Smoked turkey and all the trimmings of Thanksgiving will be cooked and served by community volunteers and Salvation Army advisory board members. Residents are welcome to invite family and friends to the event.

The Salvation Army has served the communities in McHenry County for more than 25 years of dedicated service. The McHenry County Corps provides meals, clothing, school supplies, toys, financial, and spiritual assistance to those in need. The McHenry County Corps is part of The Salvation Army Metropolitan Division.

In 2015, The Salvation Army is celebrated its 150th worldwide anniversary and 130 years of service in the Chicago area. As one of the largest direct providers of social services in the state of Illinois, the Salvation Army operates 29 corps community centers, as well as other facilities in neighborhoods across the greater Chicago area, offering shelter, meals, child care, disaster relief, after-school programs, recreational activities, music education and more.
