MCC Scots Fest to feature auto show, arts, family fun

Car lovers have an opportunity to show off their cars, trucks, or classic vehicles at the McHenry County College Scots Fest Auto Show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 10, in parking lots B and C on the Crystal Lake campus, 8900 Route 14.

The auto show is part of the MCC Scots Fest, a free, fun-filled family event to celebrate McHenry County College's 50th anniversary. It will feature classic cars and trucks, street rods, and import hot rods. The first 100 participants will receive an exclusive MCC 50th Anniversary car show placard.

"There's a resurgence in nostalgia with muscle cars," said Mike Albamonte, automotive technology instructor and department chair at MCC. "Today's baby boomer car enthusiasts are really getting into the muscle cars of the 60's which include Mustangs, Dodge Charges, Camaros, and Chevelles."

In addition to a car show, the festival will feature an arts show, live entertainment, and children's activities. Art lovers can enjoy demonstrations in ceramics, jewelry, printmaking, floral arranging, and poetry readings. Kids can enjoy the STEAM Zone, which offers hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. A Kids Corner with interactive play for children and families is also included.

Live entertainment will be performed by Charlie Three Valves and the Weird Seven, storyteller Jim May, Potts & Pans Steelband, and Crystal Lake Strikers. The rolling radio from Star Radio 105.5 will also be featured.

Food and beverages will be for sale from several food trucks, including AJz Kettlecorn Co., Crescent City Cajun, Dukes, Kona Ice, Mario's Cart, MJ's Coffee Bar, Riverside Chocolate Factory, and Rosati's.

Community members are also invited to stop by the college to view the historic timeline in the corridor between Buildings B and C, which will be on display throughout the year.

To continue McHenry County College's Anniversary celebration, future events also include participating in the Crystal Lake Fourth of July Parade Sunday, July 2, and a Friends of MCC Foundation Gala is planned for Friday, Nov. 10.

Scots Fest admission is free and open to the public. For information, visit www.mchenry.edu/50.
