Seniorpalooza at North Suburban YMCA Features Performance by 102-Year Old Pianist
The North Suburban YMCA held its third annual Seniorpalooza on Wednesday, May 29th, treating local seniors to free presentations, health screenings, food, vendors, entertainment and demonstration classes.
The highlight of the event was a performance by 102-year-old Dorothy Olson Pauletti, a former professional pianist and entertainer who was recently presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chicago Federation of Musicians for her 68 years of membership. Dorothy was later joined on several songs by Chicago singing and broadcast legend Wayne Messmer. The Hummers and Strummers Group and the Back to Rock School also entertained the crowd.
Health screenings at the event included Memory Screenings by Arden Courts Northbrook; Hearing Screenings by ConnectHearing of Libertyville; and InBody Scans (included lean body weight, body fat percentage, water weight and more) by the NSYMCA. The event also featured support from sponsorships and vendors from ClearCaptions, Betsy Phillips of Baird & Warner Glenbrook, NorthShore University Health Systems, North Shore Senior Options, Northwestern Medicine, New York Life Insurance Company Agent Norman Janis, ONE Wheeling Town Center, Waterway Carwash, and Whitehall of Deerfield. A food court offered free coffee, pastries and sandwiches courtesy of Whitehall of Deerfield and McAlister's Deli.
"We're so pleased with the turnout at the event this year," said Karen Brownlee, Adult Services Coordinator for the North Suburban YMCA. "It's alway a wonderful opportunity for people to learn about resources and programs that enrich the lives of seniors in our community."
