Judson University to join in Activate Elgin's March Into Health Month
Get ready to get moving in March, which is designated by the citywide initiative Activate Elgin as "March into Health Month."
If you need inspiration, March into Health will provide it by offering a month-long event calendar of free activities and educational sessions offered by partner organizations, like Judson University, to help local residents adopt healthier lifestyles.
"Scribblemonster Live" will be the official kickoff event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in Studio 270 at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin. This fun, family friendly activity will include healthy snack samples, prizes and games.
On Tuesday, March 15, Judson University will host "Walking as a Way of Life" health fair and presentation for older citizens. It will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the foyer and Room 101 of the Lindner Fitness Center, 1151 N. State St., Elgin.
On Tuesday, March 22, the emphasis on healthy living will continue, when Judson hosts a screening of the documentary, "EveryBody Walk!" and a preview of the Mayor's Community Walking Challenge, in the Thulin Performance Hall in the university's Thompson Center. The Mayor's Walking Challenge begins on National Walking Day, Wednesday, April 6, and ends on National Employee Health and Fitness Day, Wednesday, May 18.
Numerous health and wellness vendors also will be on hand both Tuesdays to answer questions and to pass out health materials.
"We are challenged to live a healthy life. What better way then to make health the easy choice! There are many flavors offered throughout the month of March to wet anyone's appetite for health," says Cathy Headley, exercise and sport science department chair and associate professor.
