Crosspoint Church: The church, formerly the Fox Lake Baptist Church, 27430 W. Nippersink Road, Ingleside, offers a contemporary worship service with a relevant message from the Bible at 10 a.m. Sundays.

Nursery is available as well as a Bible-based program for children ages kindergarten through sixth grade during the morning worship service.

First Church of Christ, Scientist: The church is at 240 Park Place in Libertyville, which is across from National City Bank. Sunday services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday School is held at the same hour for children and young people up to the age of 20.

Grace Lutheran Church: Grace Lutheran Church offers two worship services each Sunday. A traditional worship service is offered at 8:30 a.m. A blended contemporary service is offered at 10 a.m. Children's ministries for age 4 to sixth grade will be offered during 10 a.m. worship., beginning Sunday. Holy Cross Catholic Church: The church at 724 Elder Lane, Deerfield (Waukegan Road. & Elder Lane) will host the Holy Cross Women's Club Christmas Remembered Craft Show. The Lake County Exchange Club: The annual "One Nation Under God" Prayer Breakfast will be from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at Gurnee Community Church, 4555 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee.

This annual community gathering focuses on giving thanks for the freedom as Americans to live as one nation under God. The featured guest speaker will be (Ret.) Commander Mark Jumper, USN. The program is sponsored by The Exchange Clubs of Lake and McHenry counties.

Currently serving as senior pastor of Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Libertyville, Jumper served as a chaplain for 24 years, retiring in 2006. A veteran of Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, he devised and implemented the Marine Corps Warrior Transition Program. Named as the first Coast Guard Chaplain of the Year in 1999, his final assignments included the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the Naval Chaplains School.

His topic, "The Practical Benefits of Being One Nation Under God," will look at the views of America's founders to find guidance for our national and personal life today.

Preceding Jumper's remarks will be a performance by the Grayslake High School Jazz Band.

The free event is open to the public. A free breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, bagels, fruit, juice and coffee will be served.

Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit: Volunteers are needed to help staff shelters and provide meals as part of the Lake County Public Action to Deliver Shelter program. On the second Saturday of each month from October through April, Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit provides volunteers through the night to care for the homeless. • Young musicians, songwriters and vocalists will showcase their talent at the First Annual Jumpstart Jazz concert, a benefit for Public Action to Deliver Shelter Crisis Services. The performances will take place at North Shore Unitarian Church beginning at 7 p.m. Nov. 17. The suggested donation is $10 with all funds going to PADS.

• St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School of Hawthorn Woods has created a mobile computer lab as part of its mission to improve technology at the school. A second computer lab will be utilized for keyboarding classes and lower grade computer activities.

In conjunction with the purchases of new hardware and software, the church and school will be redesigning its Web site, creating a wireless Internet environment throughout all the buildings, and setting up dedicated chat rooms for teachers.

Join Wayne Johnson an emeritus professor of philosophy at UW-Parkside, and the Prairie Circle Unitarian Universalist Congregation for worship services at 9:15 a.m. Sunday. In his homily, Wayne will raise some basic questions about the nature of morality if there is no God. What is the rational basis for moral behavior in the absence of belief in God?

• Grayslake residents Michael & Deidre Schwartz recently returned from a five-day fact-finding visit to New Orleans as regional coordinators for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. While there they obtained firsthand accounts of the continuing problems faced by the survivors of Katrina.

"We were amazed at how difficult government is making it for people to return to their homes and lives," said Michael Schwartz.

The Schwartz's observed how the people who need the most are getting the least. "We listened to voices in the area that have endured police brutality, racial discrimination, and economic inequities," said Deidre Schwartz.

The Schwartzs recently discussed their experience at Prairie Crossing Community in Grayslake.

• "Churning God: The Emerging World Questions," a talk by Dr. John Biersdorf, will be presented at 4 p.m. Nov. 25 at Byron Colby Barn, Prairie Crossing Community, 1561 Jones Point Road, Grayslake.

Biersdorf will explore the fundamental questions religion has raised in the human psyche through history; with particular attention to emerging questions and issues in American and world cultures.

Biersdorf is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. He has been an officer in the Marine Corps, a parish pastor in California and Michigan, director of the Department of Ministry at the National Council of Churches, and on the faculty of Union Theological Seminary in New York City and Yale Divinity School.

• Sunday is designated as Mitzvah Day, a day for its congregants to "make a difference" in the Chicago area. Chaired by Ronna Leibach, hundreds of people volunteer in a variety of programs geared to help the community in acts of kindness.

Projects will benefit the following agencies: JUF/TOV Uptown Cafe, Jewish Child and Family Services, Brentwood Nursing Center, The Ronald McDonald House, WINGS (Women in Need Growing Stronger), The Night Ministry, Council for Jewish Elderly, Jewish Family Services of New Orleans, The Fairy Godmother Project, The Brave, The ARK, The Haven, PADS, the Vernon Township Food Pantry, the Wheeling Food Pantry, Project Linus, Shalva, Inspiration Café, The Humor Cart, the Jewish Community of Yerkaterinburg and United Cerebral Palsy.

The collection drives kick off this year's campaign. They include: multivitamins for our sister city of Yerkaterinburg, Russia; paper goods, household cleaning supplies and first aid supplies for the ARK, WINGS and THE HAVEN shelters for women and children; small toiletries and white socks for PADS; nail polish and manicure items, playing cards, decorative soaps, hand lotions, greeting cards and stamps for the Council for Jewish Elderly; nonperishable kosher food; used cell phones for Shalva; coupons for food and household items; batteries, breath mints, Hanukkah decorations, DVDs, magazines, and books for Jewish soldiers; used computers; new or very gently used winter coats, hats and mittens; and much more.

Another special collection will be for Jewish Family Service of New Orleans, where there is still much to do. Beth Judea will collect gift cards from Wal-Mart and Target for social workers to dispense as needed.

• The Men's Club of Congregation Beth Judea will hold its annual blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 25 in the Social Hall of the synagogue, which is located on Route 83 and Hilltop Road in Long Grove. The blood drive is being held at this time due to the severe shortage of blood during the Thanksgiving holiday.

A photo ID is required when you fill out paperwork. Bring a state ID or driver's license and make sure to have something to eat before you arrive. Refreshments will be provided by Shalom Kosher Bakery and Life Source.

First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan: The church at 122 N. St. Mark Lutheran Church: The church at 1822 E. Grand Ave., Lindenhurst, will hold a Holiday Home Show and Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 10.
