Do you know anyone who's gone green?

Applications are now being accepted for the 2007 McHenry County Green Awards.

Last year, the awards went to a manufacturer, a grade school, and a pair of volunteer organizations. Who will it be this year? The answer may depend on you.

McHenry County is once again seeking applicants for its annual Green Awards. Established in 1994, the awards honor the recycling and conservation efforts of McHenry County business, institutions, organizations, and individuals. If you are involved with a recycling program that deserves recognition, McHenry County wants to hear about it.

In 2006, the top winners were Tonerhead Inc. for its development and distribution of an ink cartridge refilling machine, Richmond Grade School for its "Cans for Kids" program, and the McHenry County Defenders with the Friends of Crystal Lake Public Library for their book salvaging program.

The 2007 winners will have best demonstrated how their programs have led to a reduction in material use through practices of conservation, recycling and reuse. Programs also will be judged on their access and availability to the public as well as their innovation and educational elements.

If you know of a program that shares any or all of these characteristics, visit www.co.mchenry.il.us to download a flier and application instructions.

Applications must be received no later than Nov. 26. If you have questions about the awards, call McHenry County Department of Planning and Development at (815) 334-4560.
