• Kathy Wessel of Wheaton, a trustee at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, was named president of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. This is the first time a board member from the college has held the position. Wessel, who taught for over 30 years in Wheaton Warrenville Unit School District 200, will serve as the association's president for one year. The association coordinates lobbying efforts and advocacy for public community colleges for the 39 community college districts in the state.

• LeRoy Fennewald and Gene Gaede, both of West Chicago, placed first and second, respectively, in the Craft category of the People's Choice Awards at the Fine Arts Fiesta in West Chicago. Fennewald's wood carving was called "Nate WVHS Bat Boy," and Gaede's wood piece was called "Bird House No. 2." Out of 55 artists, winners received place ribbons and cash prizes.

• Otto Lee of Bloomingdale has joined Central DuPage Physician Group in Bartlett, affiliated with Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Lee, who practices family medicine, has clinical interests in newborn, infant and general pediatric care, as well as hypertension, cholesterol, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, and diabetes.

• Patti Kozlowski of Batavia, a Family and Consumer Science teacher at Community High School District 94 in West Chicago, was given the statewide Outstanding Consumer Service Award by the Illinois Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers Association. Kozlowski coordinated a food drive for a local food pantry, ran an Chamber of Commerce event to benefit special needs individuals, and had students in clothing classes make and distribute blankets for children at local hospitals.
