MCC offers college overview for students' parents

To educate parents about their student's transition from high school to college, the McHenry County College Advising and Transfer Center will present a Parent Orientation, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday and again from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in the MCC Conference Center, Building B, 8900 U.S. Route 14, Crystal Lake.

Parents are encouraged to attend one of the sessions.

General information about MCC degrees, policies and student support services will be provided by an adviser. A four-person panel representing financial aid, special needs and counseling will answer parents' questions.

"The orientation will cover things that parents may not be aware of, including the Sage Learning Center, that offers free tutoring in math, English, and certain other subjects; the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and how college is different from high school," said Sharon Archacki, coordinator of the MCC Advising and Transfer Center.
