Friends of MCC raise $40,000 for scholarships

The Friends of McHenry County College Foundation recently hosted the MCC Golf Invitational, which netted more than $40,000 to help fund student scholarships, faculty and staff mini-grants, technology projects and visual art purchases.

The winning foursome for the second year in row was Centegra Health System team of Jason Sciarro, Anoop Karna, Christian Newkirk and David Goldrath. Second place went to the Ace Coffee Bar Inc. team of Roger Sweeney, Rodney Cavitt, Matt Cavitt, and John Och; and third place was awarded to Althoff Industries team of Michael Carpenter, Rodney Williams, Jeff Miller, and Thomas Janik.

Other contest winners were: longest putt, Dave Alton; closest to the pin, April Maifield and Chris Rutherford and longest drive, April Maifield and Butch Pintozzi.

According to MCC alum Ken Schmidt, Friends of McHenry County College Foundation board member and past president, the MCC golf outing is a win-win event. "You support a fantastically well-run event, have a superb time at a five-star resort and meet great people. At the end of the day, people who may otherwise never get the chance, receive the gift of college through scholarship money raised at the event. It's a sure-thing investment and the dividends pay out for life."

Todd McDonald, interim executive director of the Friends of McHenry County College Foundation, said the golf outing's success is a result of diligent planning from the Foundation staff, dedicated volunteers and generous support from numerous sponsors.
