Wrap: Judson splits, sets wins record

The Judson University softball team won the second game of a doubleheader, 11-3, over Carthage College Monday, breaking the school record for wins in a season, which was set in 2002.

Judson (24-24) fell 9-7 in the opener of the season-ending twin bill despite the seventh-inning heroics of pitcher Aimee Ewert, who helped her own cause by launching a one-out home run to center field that tied the game in the bottom of the seventh.

However, Carthage (19-11) tallied 4 runs in the top of the eighth, which was enough to hold off the Eagles, who rallied for 2 runs in their half of the eighth before the last two batters struck out with a runner in scoring position.

The Eagles bounced back to take the nightcap 11-3, thanks to a 5-run fourth inning. That outburst was capped by Nicole Dimiceli's grand slam to right-center field, her eighth home run of the season.

Deb Leganski hit her 14th home run of the season in the first inning and Lizzy Jacobson won her 10th game of the season, striking out six.

The school record for wins comes on the heels of a third-place finish at the NCCAA National Tournament and a victory in the CCAC Tournament.
