Briefs: Recycling event today

The Villa Park Environmental Concerns Commission and Unitec Recycling Corp. will be holing an electronics recycling event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Village of Villa Park's public works yard, 100 W. Home Ave. All electronics will be accepted except televisions and dumb terminals.

Young fliers wanted

Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 101 will hold its next Young Eagles rally from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Schaumburg Regional Airport at the intersection of Irving Park Road and Wright Boulevard in Schaumburg. All youths aged 8 to 17 who show up will get the chance to take their first flight in a private airplane. All attendees can meet with the pilots, see different kinds of aircraft and maybe even get the chance to take control of the plane with the pilot's assistance. A Sunday ride for a cause

The Tri-Town YMCA is gearing up for its first ever Lilac Time Motorcycle Poker Run. The 100-mile ride will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at Wild Fire Harley-Davidson, 120 W. North Ave., Villa Park. During the trip, the caravan will stop at various YMCA sites and other sponsored stops before concluding at the Lilac Time festival art and craft show in downtown Lombard. Fees of $20 per bike ($25 on the day of the ride) and $10 per additional passenger will benefit the Tri-Town YMCA, sponsor programs in Lombard, Villa Park and Oakbrook Terrace. Two grand prizes will be awarded at the ride's end to the best five-card poker hand from cards given out at each stop. Glenbard 5K on Sunday

The Raider 5K Run and Walk sponsored by the Glenbard South Boosters and local businesses starts at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. It begins and ends at Glenbard South High School, 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn. Participants should meet at the northwest entrance to the football stadium. Registration is from 7 to 8:15 a.m. with an 8:30 a.m. race start. Awards are given for places in each age category, and participants are eligible for prize drawings. Registration forms are at www.glenbardsouthhs.org. Fees are $20 for students and adults. All race proceeds will benefit the academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs at Glenbard South High School.
