Crystal Lake
• The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded at 10:45 p.m. Monday to a fire in the lower level of a home at 279 Plymouth Lane. The homeowner was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but her two dogs died. The home and its contents sustained heavy heat, water and smoke damage, with the loss estimated at $130,000, according to fire authorities. The initial investigation showed the fire was accidental. In addition to Crystal Lake, fire departments from Cary, Algonquin/ Lake in the Hills, Fox River Grove, Carpentersville, Lakewood, Nunda Township and McHenry Township responded to the fire.
Elgin
• A woman flagged down a police car on the 100 block of Summit Street at 6:45 a.m. Monday and said a man driving a black Dodge Durango had been following her. Such a truck was stopped, and the driver told police the woman was mistaken because he was delivering newspapers, a report said. Police called the Daily Herald and confirmed that the man did deliver papers for the company, but Summit Street was not on his delivery route. During a search of his truck, police said, they found 35.6 grams of marijuana, two metal smoking pipes and one water bong. William J. Brown, 40, of 6408 Martin St., Crystal Lake, was charged with felony possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. Brown later told police he was driving along Summit Street looking for fishing spots. He posted a $500 bond Tuesday morning and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court again on April 7 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
• A man wanted on warrants for several offenses was arrested late Monday. Emmanuel Limberg, 20, homeless of Elgin, was charged with felony criminal trespass to real property, criminal damage to property, two counts of domestic battery and driving while license suspended, police said. He remains in the Elgin lockup with a total bond of $3,000. He has court dates scheduled for April 11 in St. Charles and April 14 in Elgin.
• Five thousand dollars in cash was stolen from a home on the 1000 block of Pebble Beach Circle between 9:30 p.m. Monday and 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the thief might have a key to the 24-year-old woman's home.
• A red Volvo tractor with a trailer was located at 8:15 p.m. Monday in a parking lot on the 200 block of South Randall Road. The tractor and trailer were reported missing from Great Lakes Express in Elmhurst in January.
• Witnesses reported seeing men stealing video games, lengths of copper and television sets from a red-tagged home on the 400 block of Summit Street between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Monday.
Kane County
• A resident of Prairie Court in Rutland Township reported to Kane County sheriff's police that a cast iron mailbox valued at about $250 was stolen between 5:30 p.m. March 14 and 11 a.m. March 15.
• Elizabeth M. Danielek of Union Street in Elgin was arrested for driving under the influence at 2:17 a.m. Saturday near Hopi Lane and Koshare Trail in Elgin Township, police said. She was driving a 2003 Pontiac and struck a tree, according to Kane County sheriff's police.
