Illinois girls capture Mid-East championship

The 23rd running of the Mid-East cross country championships provided some of the best senior high school runners from Illinois Indiana, Michigan and Ohio a chance to claim regional superiority.Twelve girls and 12 boys from various Illinois high schools raced Nov. 21 in Kettering Ohio.

The Illinois girls team captured its first title in the history of the event.

Members of the girls squad included Alexis Goldsmith (Sandburg); McKinzie Schulz (Benet Academy); Ashley Sellers (Marist); Kim Christensen (Sandburg); Sarah Reynolds (Hersey); Devyn Thompson (Whitney Young); Erin Poss (Antioch); Megumi Hoshi (Niles West); Meghan Heuer (St. Charles North); Holly Robertson (St. Charles East); Tessa Hoefle (Winnebago); and Taylor Miller (Crystal Lake Central).

Members of the boys team included Jake Ferris (Plainfield); Noah Graboys (New Trier); Jerry Olp (Benet Academy); Chris Spudic (Prospect); Michael Castel (Moline); Ryan Van Fossen (Metamora); Albert Ciolek (Prospect); Dylan Reyes (Newman Central Catholic); Angelos and Photis Karkalis (Rolling Meadows); Phil Fairleigh (Cary Grove); and Sergio Miranda (Romeoville).
