Small business owners can get timely information on tax law changes at a comprehensive tax seminar from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 20, offered by the Illinois Small Business Development Center at McHenry County College. The workshop will be held at the Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry.

The Small Business Tax Workshop will cover many aspects of the tax changes from a business perspective, including such topics as: "Commuting and Parking Benefits for Employees," "Expensing Business Equipment," "First-Time Buyers with Home-Based Businesses," "Payroll Tax Changes" and "Depreciation of Restaurants and Retail Stores."

Jim Gioia, a certified public accountant from Yapelli and Gioia & Company in Crystal Lake, will conduct the workshop.

"There are significant changes this year and next year for small businesses," said Mary Margaret Maule, coordinator of the ISBDC. It is important to remember that tax planning is a year-round event," said Mary Margaret Maule, ISBDC coordinator. "It's important, therefore, to take stock now and assess how your business can comply with, and benefit from, 2009 tax law changes. Plan now to position your company to take advantage of these changes."

The fee is $45. For information or to register, call the Illinois Small Business Development Center at (815) 455-6098 or e-mail sbdc@mchenry.edu.
