Harper officer out of hospital

The 58-year-old Harper College police officer who was seriously injured trying to disperse a crowd last week was released from Northwest Community Hospital on Wednesday, hospital spokesman Blaine Krage said.

The victim fractured his skill and suffered swelling and bleeding in his brain, prosecutors said.

Jay Dixon, 22, of Wheeling, was charged with aggravated battery and resisting a peace officer. College officials said Dixon was part of a crowd that gathered to watch a female student who was provocatively dancing.

Dixon pushed the officer in the chest, causing him to hit his head against a concrete wall, prosecutors said. Dixon was given a $200,000 bond.
