Homeless, disabled veterans to benefit from Warriors' Poker Run
Warriors' Poker Run to benefit homeless and disabled veterans will start with check-in at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Broken Oar Marina, Bar and Grill, 614 Rawson Bridge Road, Port Barrington.
Come by motorcycle, car or boat. The grand prize is $500. Stops will be at Brink Street Restaurant in Crystal Lake, Gus's Roadhouse in Woodstock, Horizontals in Wonder Lake and Old Town Pizza in McHenry. Raffles and a dart tournament will be featured along the route. Draw a wild card at Jr's Broken Inn in Island Lake and missed cards at Old Town Pizza.
Transitional Living Services, a nonprofit group formed by veterans to help veterans, is holding the event. All proceeds will go toward its programs and projects. It currently operates a center for homeless veterans in Hebron and is working to develop and build a rehabilitation facility for severely disabled veterans, especially those with traumatic brain injury.
