Parents' workshop at Harper

Two suburban dads will host a forum touting simple and immediate solutions to help parents struggling with particular problems with their kids. Marlin Keesler and Derek Randel, along with three other speakers, will hold an "Exceptional Child Workshop" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Harper College Wojcik Center in Palatine. The speakers will address the various obstacles inherent in raising challenged children, including the essentials of a complete support system, bullying, nutrition and behavior, marital strain and sibling support. Keesler, who's written a book about finding solutions to raising autistic children, said one of the main obstacles he hopes to overcome is the stigma some parents feel in simply seeking help.
