Crosstown Classic T-shirts:
Commemorative T-shirts are on sale for the third annual Crosstown Kickoff Classic football game between Glenbard South and Glenbard West high schools. The Booster organizations for both schools are selling the shirts for $10 each in advance of the Aug. 28 games that feature the sophomore football teams at 5 p.m. and the varsities at 7:30 p.m. at Glenbard South, 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn. The shirts promote the theme of Friday Night Lights and list the schedule of South and West sports events throughout the year. All proceeds will be split between the Booster organizations, which will donate the money back to the schools to support academic, athletic and extracurricular activities.
Group targets water supply:
The Conservation Foundation will play host to a meeting of residents and officials from towns in the Lower DuPage River watershed from 10 a.m. until noon Sept. 10 at the Plainfield public works facility, 14400 Coil Plus Drive. The ultimate goal is to create and implement a plan to protect and enhance water quality in an area that includes Naperville, Bolingbrook, Plainfield, Channahon, Joliet, Minooka, Romeoville and Shorewood. Wheaton Academy dedication:
Wheaton Academy in West Chicago will dedicate $9 million worth of new athletic facilities Saturday in the form of the Heritage Field House, the Hanson-Lindop Memorial Atrium Building, and a renovated Warrior Dome. The ceremony is open to the public and begins at 10 a.m. at 900 Prince Crossing Road. The school broke ground on the Heritage Field House in May 2008. The building is roughly 38,000 square feet and houses practice courts, locker rooms, a fitness facility, classrooms and offices. The Hanson-Lindop Memorial Atrium Building and the renovation of the Warrior Dome, the Academy's pre-existing gym built in 1948, were completed this summer.
