The Chicago Fire Soccer in conjunction with the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association named John Horstman, Prospect High School; Mark Gryka, West Leyden High School; Tim Crowl, William Fremd High School; James Peter Kelly, Maine East High School; Kyle Hannon, Maine South High School; and Sanjit Shah, Wheeling High School, to its Boys High School Soccer All-State All-Academic Team.

The athletes were honored at the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State Banquet in November.

• Streamwood High School senior Faith Betinis was the featured artist during a reception held Monday, Dec. 8, at the Community Center Gallery in Hanover Park.

Betinis is the second young artist in the past year to have her first one-person show at the Hanover Park District's gallery. Her show featured paintings, drawings, mixed media pieces and a collection of photographs.

• The Mount Prospect Sunrise Rotary Club honored Ron Buch, executive director of community health and outreach at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights, with its 2008 John McNamara Service Above Self Award.

The award, named in memory of one of the club's founding members and first presidents, honors non-Rotary members who offer their time and talents to make a positive impact in their community.

Buch, who has served Northwest Community Hospital for 33 years, is a founding member of the Suburban Primary Health Care Council. He also serves on the board of Bridge Youth and Family Services, the leadership board of WINGS, the board of directors of the Des Plaines Senior Center and the board of Revelation Golf.
