Ornament sale in Batavia:

The Batavia Depot Museum is selling a colored brass ornament, the third in the historic church series. It features the Congregational Church of Batavia. Cost is $10. Buy it at the museum, 155 Houston St., and the Batavia Park District Civic Center, 327 W. Wilson St.

Concert at library:

Learn to baby-sit

American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course will be conducted for students ages 11 to 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. Registration priority is given to Batavia cardholders. Sign up at bataviapubliclibrary.org.

Sick children in need:

The 49 children in Elgin and Aurora who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS have sent their Christmas wishes to the Open Door Clinic, which is asking you to help make those wishes come true. Visit opendoorclinic.com and click on the wreath to find a child you'd like to help, select one of their wishes and contact the clinic to let them know which child and gift you'll give by Monday. You can drop your gifts off at 164 Division St., Suite 607, in Elgin.

West Chicago wins award:

West Chicago has been recognized by the National Association of Town Watch for its outstanding participating in this year's National Night Out. The event was created to promote crime, drug and violence prevention and strengthen neighborhood unity. West Chicago was chosen a National Award Winner, placing 16th out of 54 towns in its population category.

ECC health program expands:

Elgin Community College's Pathways to Health Careers Program has added four certificates to allow more students to enter the program, obtain grant funding to pay for their tuition, books and fees and attain skills quickly for employment in health care. A basic vocational specialist in clinical laboratory assisting and phlebotomy, vocational specialist in histotechnology and vocational specialist certificate in massage therapy are the new study options added to the program. They join current associate degree offerings in clinical laboratory technology, physical therapy assisting, histotechnology and radiography, along with a vocational specialist certificate in dental assisting.
