Senior softball stars get set for Monday game at Barrington Field

The 16th Mid-Suburban League Senior All-Star Game is set for Monday at Barrington's Field of Dreams at 7 p.m.

Rolling Meadows' Connie Porters was the MVP in the 2008 game won by the MSL East 9-8. She beat the throw to first base on her single to right with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to drive in the winning run. She also had a double.

Porters will receive the Nancy Frisk Most Valuable Player Award before Monday's game.

When the senior all-star game was started in 1993 by Barrington coach Perry Peterson with help from other league coaches, a decision was made to have a most valuable player award each year.

The award was named in the memory of Nancy Frisk, who died of cancer in 1992.

Nancy was the wife of Bob Frisk of the Daily Herald, an enthusiastic supporter of high school sports who retired in December after 50 years at the newspaper.

Frisk will make the presentation of the award.

The first game was played in 1993 with the MSL North defeating the South 11-8 as Schaumburg's Carrie Hansen was named the Nancy Frisk MVP.

In 2000, the divisions were changed to the East and West and West prevailed 6-4 with Allison Hlavacek of Conant receiving the MVP award.

This year's MSL West roster includes Kim Cygan, Lindsey Dulla and Kelsey Kuhn of Barrington, Dana Butler, Nichole Gross, Georgie Kutramanes and Tricia Kutramanes of Conant, Casey Latal and Jessica Tackett of Fremd, Colleen Roberts, Kaitlin Walsh and Alex Wulbecker of Hoffman Estates, Kelsey Griffin and Michelle Dellamaria of Palatine and Missy Anderson, Caitlin Becker and Sarah McGinn of Schaumburg.

The MSL West coaches are Lindsey Hamma (Hoffman Estates), Erin Malinowski (Schaumburg), Jeff Manz (Palatine), Perry Peterson (Barrington), CathyAnn Smith (Conant) and Jim Weaver (Fremd).

Playing for the MSL East will be Meg Miller of Buffalo Grove, Stephanie Dolce, Caitlin Garrison, Nikki Goranson, Kim Gulik, Amanda Mertes, Kristy Ottosen and Krystina Leazer of Elk Grove, Sarah Laughlin and Aleene Morgenthaler of Hersey, Katie Dillon and Lisa Dominick of Prospect, Libby Marsh and Maddy Urban of Rolling Meadows and Kristen Durbin of Wheeling.

The MSL East coaches are Beth Anderson (Wheeling), Molly Freeman (Hersey), Ken Grams (Elk Grove), Brenda Martin (Prospect), Laura Stock (Buffalo Grove) and Tony Wolanski (Rolling Meadows).
