ECC trustees OK Spartan Road funding
In a meeting Sept. 8, Elgin Community College District 509 board of trustees took these actions:
• Approved the minutes of the Aug. 11 open session.
• Approved a $2.3 million loan agreement with the city of Elgin to fund the reconstruction of Spartan Drive from McLean Boulevard to east of Renner Drive on the main campus.
• Purchased electrical and lighting supplies for use in electrical maintenance and repair projects throughout the college from Advance Electrical of Mokena in an amount not to exceed $25,418.
• Purchased paper stock for graphics and print services from Midland Paper of Wheeling in an amount not to exceed $25,908.
• Contracted for waste removal services with Allied Waste Removal of Elgin $121,968 for three years.
• Purchased a 2005 Caterpillar wheel loader from Illinois Truck and Equipment of Morris for $72,000 after trading in a 1968 wheel loader for $5,000. The loader will be used for snow removal and landscape projects.
• Purchased a one year Microsoft Campus Agreement subscription from CDW Government Inc. of Vernon Hills for $31,350.
• Contracted with DLA Architects of Elgin for programming, design and construction renovation of the college's 410 and 466 Renner Drive properties for 7.6 percent of the estimated $11.8 million construction budget. When completed the buildings will serve as general classroom space and temporary locations for offices and classrooms affected by other campus construction projects.
• Approved a contract with Kluber, Skahan and Associates of Batavia for professional fees for the renovation of the Fox Valley University and Business Center in an amount not to exceed $105,750.
• Accepted a variety of gifts for use in various instructional programs and by the ECC Foundation from area residents and businesses. To see the full list of gifts and donors, visit www.elgin.edu/boardoftrustees.
• Hired an interim project director of clinical laboratory and histotechnology.
The next meeting of the board will be Tuesday, Oct. 13, with a closed session at 6 p.m. in the Fox Valley University and Business Center. A public meeting follows at 7 p.m. in UBC's Seigle Auditorium.
