Brugioni, Grant top Buffalo Grove

Grant 4, Buffalo Grove 0: At Mundelein, Bri Brugioni pitched a 4-hitter with 12 strikeouts and also hit a home run, as the 10th-seeded Bulldogs won their Class 4A regional opener.

C.J. Hill went 2-for-3 in the win.

Grant (18-15) will play No. 2 Barrington in the regional final at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Vernon Hills 12, Regina 2: At Wauconda, Lauren Yacullo went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Charlotte Hoffman homered and drove in 3 runs, as the Cougars won their Class 3A regional opener.

No. 2 Vernon Hills (18-8) advanced to Saturday's 1:30 p.m. regional final against top-seeded host Wauconda.

Emily Evanson pitched a 6-inning complete-game for the win, striking out eight and scattering 5 hits.

Megan Kubacki and Sara Doerhoefer each had 2 hits for the Cougars.
