Danielak ties Hersey mark

Hersey junior Steve Danielak matched a school record and put coach Bob Huber a victory away from a milestone in Friday's Mid-Suburban League baseball crossover with Conant.

Danielak threw a 3-hitter to improve to 9-2 as Hersey (17-17) won 3-2 to give Huber his 299th career victory. Danielak didn't allow an earned run and had 7 strikeouts and 1 walk to tie the single-season school victory mark set in 1993 by Rob Quarnstrom, who pitched for three years in the minor leagues in the Rangers' organization.

Bobby Colucci had 2 doubles for Conant (18-11), which took a 2-1 lead in the second. Joe Koziol and Chris James had RBI singles in the fifth and Jake Knauss had an RBI double in the first for Hersey.

Prospect 13, Schaumburg 11: Prospect (15-15) rolled lucky 13s twice as it also had 13 hits in the MSL crossover.

Peter Bonahoom (2-for-3) and John Coen homered, Steve Dazzo had 2 doubles and Jason Leblebijian went 3-for-5 for the Knights.

Mike Mistrata hit the 22nd homer of his four-year varsity career to break the Schaumburg (15-14) record of Kevin Hartsburg. Matt Mistrata and Dave Compitello also homered.

BG 6, Palatine 5: Ryan Nisbet singled and James Hurley doubled with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give Buffalo Grove (13-17) the MSL crossover win. Greg Sanders tied it with a pinch-hit 2-run homer in the sixth as Palatine (16-17) lost its fifth straight.

Elk Grove 3, Barrington 2: Kyle Pfister (7-6) threw 3 hitless innings of relief with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk as Elk Grove (19-16) won the MSL crossover in the bottom of the ninth and tied it in the seventh. Derek Foderaro was 2-for-4 for Barrington (16-13).

Hoffman 13, Wheeling 6: Mike Eisele had a home run and a double, Justin Harris homered and Mike Norman added a triple and double for visiting Hoffman Estates (9-22) in the MSL crossover.

Maine West 6, Libertyville 2: Kane Hernandez got the victory as Tommy Ross tripled and Ryan Tuntland, who has committed to Oakton Community College, doubled for Maine West (22-7).

St. Viator sweeps Marian Catholic: The long ride down to Chicago Heights paid big dividends, as St. Viator swept an East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader from host Marian Catholic by scores of 7-2 and 7-3.

Julian Sipiora (4-4) threw a complete-game 5-hitter in the opener with 8 strikeouts and no walks and went 3-for-4.

In Game 2, Bryce Hensley (5-6) was the winning pitcher for the Lions (18-15, 7-11), and Anthony Quagliano picked up his third save. Jake Mastrangeli went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and Brett Kay went 2-for-4.
