Appearing before the Illinois Supreme Court Wednesday, attorneys for Rolling Meadows and Arlington Heights argued whether the former should pay the latter more than $1 million in misallocated sales taxes from Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant. The upscale restaurant at 798 W. Algonquin Road straddles the towns’ borders. Technically, it’s in Arlington Heights, but the Illinois Department of Revenue mistakenly coded it as a Rolling Meadows business when it opened in June 2011.

Plan to open first marijuana dispensary in Batavia nears approval

Plans for a marijuana dispensary to open in a former Arby’s restaurant in Batavia are moving forward. The city council will vote on a request for a conditional use permit Tuesday for Dutchess Cannabis to open in the building at 144 S. Randall Road. Boston-based Rubino Ventures, LLC is the applicant.

West Chicago is offering grants of up to $100,000 for property and business owners in its downtown as part of a new city program. The West Chicago Downtown Investment Program, which started Jan. 1, applies to properties within the Downtown Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District No. 2.
