Join Advocate for 708 in ‘Help Us Find Our Sweet Spot’ fundraiser

Advocate for 708 is hosting an open house fundraiser to support the creation of 708 community mental health boards in Illinois.

It will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at the Family Life Center of Trinity Lutheran Church, 405 S. Rush St. in Roselle.

They will be celebrating the nine 708 Community Mental Health Boards that Advocate for 708 helped to create through successful township tax referendums between 2017 and 2023. The event also will be raising funds to support referendum advocacy campaigns planned for 2024 and beyond for townships in Cook, DuPage, and Lake counties.

It will feature short educational presentations from community leaders and mental health professionals plus an assortment of delectable treats generously provided by The Sweet Spot Bakery in Lisle.

The nine newly formed 708 boards Advocate for 708 helped create will provide more than $16 million in annual grant funding for organizations that work with people with mental health issues, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities.

708 boards in Illinois are created when voters approve a referendum. In DuPage, Cook, and Lake counties, 708 boards may be formed at the township or municipal level. It costs $6,000 to $12,000 to conduct a successful 708 board referendum campaign.

The 2024 fundraising goal is $20,000 to support several fall and spring campaigns.

Working together we can create stronger, more supportive communities. You can “Help Us Find Our Sweet Spot” by attending the open house fundraiser. There is no set charge for this event. Be part of the celebration and contribute as you are able.
