Wheaton Municipal Band Presents Power of Music

The Wheaton Municipal Band has been called a "Hidden Gem," and now perhaps taking on the name "Superhero" by presenting the Power of Music. On Thursday, July 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park in downtown Wheaton, the Band presents One World, Many Voices, a collage of sound and emotions. The Band welcomes an assortment of conductors and musicians to colorfully illustrate the power and healing of music. In addition, to Music Director Dr. Bruce Moss, Dr. Robert Sheldon and Dr. Thomas Bough step up to the podium.

The Wheaton Band and Dr. Moss's reputation around the world attracts many of the top Concert Band conductors. The band welcomes Dr. Robert Sheldon. Sheldon wears many musical hats, including educator, clinician, conductor, composer, and arranger. Many of his compositions are performed throughout the world. He received the Volkwein Award for composition from the American School Band Directors Association and the Stanbury Award for teaching. As a member of the American Bandmasters Association, he has sold over three million copies of his compositions and books and is one of the most performed composers of wind band music. Several of Sheldon's compositions are on the program. The concert features a few Sheldon's works.

In addition, Dr. Thomas Bough raises his baton at Memorial Park to conduct the Wheaton Municipal Band. Bough directs the Northern Illinois Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, and Athletic Bands. Bough is an active arranger, composer, conductor, and adjudicator for concert band, marching band, and brass band. He is the founding music director of the of the Fox Valley Brass Band in Aurora, Illinois. The WMB presents one of Bough's compositions as well.

The concert also features flutist Carlyn Lloyd in a unique work for flute and harp with chamber accompaniment. Harpist Julie Spring joins Lloyd in performing Mozart's "Concerto for Flute and Harp in C Major." Lloyd is a regular long-standing member of the Wheaton Municipal Band. She performs throughout the area in several groups. As the owner of Tri-L-Co Music, she engages classical chamber music ensembles for performances throughout the suburbs. Spring says, "I was destined to play the harp." However, it is not often that a harp is a featured soloist with a wind band. This is a rare opportunity to hear the delicate balance of Mozart, wind ensemble flute and harp.

Don't miss this unique performance on Thursday, July 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park in Downtown Wheaton.
