Project OneTen to honor leaders for commitment to Chicago's young people at 2023 Summer Soiree fundraiser

Project OneTen, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the academic foundation for boys of color, has named its 2023 honorees for their commitment to young people in Chicago and their support of the organization's mission. Adrienne Scherenzel-Curry, vice president of Community Engagement, Chicago Bulls, and executive director of Chicago Bulls Charities and former state Senator Cristina Pacione-Zayas, first deputy chief of staff for Mayor Brandon Johnson, will be officially recognized at Project OneTen's fifth annual Summer Soiree fundraiser.

Project OneTen's Summer Soiree fundraiser will take place Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 6-9:30 p.m. at Goose Island Barrel House (603 N. Sacramento Blvd.). Tickets are available for purchase at give.projectoneten.org and include open bar, light bites, and complimentary valet.

"This year's honorees have made an amazing contribution to our city and have been key individuals in the growth of Project OneTen," said Dirrick Butler, founder and executive director, Project OneTen. Adrienne and the Bulls support of Project OneTen has been catalytic since becoming a Chicago Bulls selected charity since our launch in 2019. Cristina is a fierce advocate and ally for young people. She has brought a lifetime of experience in education policy and community advocacy to Springfield since being elected.

Over the last five years Project OneTen has supported over 200 boys of color in achieving academic success when transitioning from eighth grade to high school.

"This year we are proud to announce that 100 percent of the boys who participated in our first cohort are graduating from high school," said Butler.

Project OneTen will host a mentor recruitment booth at the Soiree. The organization is seeking new mentors who will serve as personal champions for their mentees during their critical transition to high school. Project OneTen provides mentors with training and resources, a developmental relationship framework, and a supportive community of other mentors and students. Prospective mentors should be at least 25 years of age, able to commit to at least four hours a month with mentees and monitor their growth throughout the year, attend two training sessions, and a summer camp session on August 12-13, 2023. Application and more information are available at www.projectoneten.org/mentor. About Project OneTen
