Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra wraps up season with 'Orchestral Brilliance' May 7

The award-winning Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra presents "Orchestral Brilliance," a memorable evening of music with an incandescent program of blockbuster works, on Saturday, May 7.

Recently named 2022 Community Orchestra of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras, the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra will welcome guest artist, percussionist She-e Wu, whose extraordinary talents will be showcased in Grammy Award-winning Jennifer Higdon's imaginative Percussion Concerto.

The ESO brass will shine in Shostakovich's Festive Overture, and the brilliant Symphonic Dances of Rachmaninoff round out the program.

The concert takes place at 7 p.m. at its home venue, Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst. The church has accessible parking and facilities; parking is free.

The concert experience at the church is enhanced by the informative and lively discussion, "Behind the Music Stand," led by audience favorite Dr. Ted Hatmaker, which takes place at 5:45 p.m. prior to the concert.

This performance is dedicated to the memory of Wanda Maxson, a longtime supporter of the Elmhurst Symphony and the first president of the orchestra's auxiliary.

The concert is underwritten in part by generous gifts from Ralph Maxson (Shostakovich's Festive Overture) and Keith and Irmgard Olson (Higdon's Percussion Concerto and Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances.)

Concert tickets are $35, $32 for seniors, or $12 for students (school-age or college with ID.) Group and family rates are available.

Tickest can be purchased at www.elmhurstsymphony.org or by calling the box office at (630) 941-0202.
