African Safaris with a Social Mission: When tourism is more than just travel
When the pandemic closed travel world-wide in March of 2020, one might have supposed that a tourism company like Access 2 Tanzania would be negatively impacted long-term. On the contrary, what resulted was an unexpected opportunity to reinvest energy into the fast-growing work of their associated nonprofit, Project Zawadi. The mission of Project Zawad is to ensure Tanzanian children and youth have access to a quality education. After two decades, Project Zawadi has reached a new stage in growth and is poised to have national impact on education in Tanzania.
A Tourism Company Founded to Spark Cultural Connections
Access 2 Tanzania has always been about more than just travel since its inception in 2004. The company was formed to further the nonprofit mission of Project Zawadi - an educational nonprofit serving rural Tanzania in an area two hours west of Serengeti National Park and where owner Brian Singer served in the Peace Corps between 1993-1995.
"I believed that if people could visit Tanzania they would fall in love with every aspect of the country - especially the people. My dream was that the educational work of Project Zawadi would be supported by our travelers. That dream has come true," said Brian Singer, owner of Access 2 Tanzania and executive director of Project Zawadi.
Access 2 Tanzania guests account for half of all of Project Zawadi's supporters. With pandemic travel on the rise, the opportunity to share the work of Project Zawadi with new travelers is also growing. However, social entrepreneurship cannot rest on good intentions alone. The quality of service provided by Access 2 Tanzania over the last 18 years by its U.S.-based consulting team and its Tanzania-based operational team is how the magic of "once in a lifetime travel" is born. Built from the ground up by tourism, business, and nonprofit professionals in both countries, Access 2 Tanzania is among the top-rated Tanzania Tour Operators on Trip Advisor. The trust that travelers have in Access 2 Tanzania translates into the trust they have in Project Zawadi to deliver on its social mission as well.
