Course for boaters looks at various weather patterns

Safety and comfort are essential when boating. Needless to say, the current and future weather conditions are equally important when out on the water. Here is your chance to become a knowledgeable observer and interpreter of the weather.

America's Boating Club of Waukegan is offering an informative weather course for boaters that is unique not only because it addresses modern weather forecasting - including the types of forecasts, when to use them, and how to get and interpret them - it also deals with the fundamental atmospheric dynamics underlying the weather events being forecast.

The course focuses on how weather systems form, behave, move, and interact with one another. You will also learn about the availability of a variety of weather reports and forecasts found online.

The 10-session course will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays via Zoom Jan. 12 to March 16. There will be a final exam on the last day.

The course costs $75 for America's Boating Club members, $105 for nonmembers. The course materials include a textbook, three weather maps and a cloud chart.
