One of Lake County's Leading Architects Brings New Museum To Life

In professional practice since 2001 and licensed in fourteen states, architect Adam Lyons has left his mark on several high-end residential and corporate/commercial projects throughout Chicago's northern suburbs and beyond. Although driven by the challenge of creating and transforming structures and spaces, Lyons has always felt the beating of a "rock and roll heart."

A year ago, Lyons became aware of the new Illinois Rock and Roll Museum project through a cousin who introduced him to museum visionary and president Ron Romero. Located on Route 66 in downtown Joliet, Illinois, the building's vacant and unusable shell was in dire need of work. Although Romero and his team developed raw concepts for the museum's future home, they lacked the formalized means to communicate the museum's vision to the city.

It was then that Adam's "rock and roll heart" beckoned. Lyons helped space plan, layout, compose, and prepare the needed drawings to ensure that the necessary building upgrades and improvements were made and that design concepts would conform to safety codes, occupancy, exiting, and accessibility. Lyon's construction drawings are currently being reviewed and in process with Joliet planning.

"The Illinois Rock and Roll Museum is very grateful for Adam Lyons' expertise and services. He has been instrumental in kicking our project into high gear by providing all of the architectural plans needed for permits and for the building trade groups to bring the project to life," explained founder Ron Romero.

Lyons responded, "The museum is a worthy project that I wanted to be part of. It has been a joy working with Ron and his team to make this much anticipated museum a reality. I've always had an inner passion for rock and roll music and its talented artists and often felt I might have been one of them in a past life!"

The four-level building was built in 1930 and covers 30,000 sq. feet. Being completed in phases, the museum will feature exhibits, events, radio broadcasts, music instruction, rehearsal space, a gift shop and more. It will serve as a key tourist destination and economic engine for the region. On August 31, 2021, the museum held its first annual Illinois Hall of Fame induction ceremonies and concert event at the Rialto Theatre in downtown Joliet.
