Community Adult Day Center of Downers Grove celebrates 35th year Sept. 18

The Community Adult Day Center, a Downers Grove nonprofit serving older adults and their families living with cognitive and physical challenges, is celebrating its 35th year of service to the community by hosting a "Community Day" on Saturday, Sept. 18. The main festivity will be a "Shop N Stroll" fundraising event showcasing downtown Downers Grove businesses while bringing awareness to the vital work done at the center.

"Shop N Stroll" will be a fun way for members of the community to raise funds for the center and win valuable prizes while learning more about all that the downtown Downers Grove business district has to offer.

"Shop N Stoll" participants will be asked to check out at least 10 of the 23 participating downtown merchants. A drawing will then be held of all eligible participants for prizes including: one $1,000 and two $500 downtown gift certificates as well an assortment of valuable prizes. Winners need not be present to win.

Susan Sinderson, executive director of the Community Adult Day Center, said "Our work is not always well-known but it is significant to this community. The Shop N Stroll event will bring awareness to the vital work done at the Center in a festive way while partnering with downtown Downers Grove merchants to build on our relationships." She added, "We encourage the community to come out and support our ongoing efforts to offer quality, fun and therapeutic moments for older adults and their families living with cognitive and physical challenges."

Erin Venezia, executive director of the Downtown Downers Grove Management Corp., said, "We are thrilled to partner with Community Adult Day Center as they showcase our downtown merchants and solidify their partnerships with other businesses in the community." "They are a gem in the Downers Grove community and we are fortunate to have such a service available to our older adult residents," she added.

The "Shop N Stroll" event will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.

Participants are asked to register online or purchase tickets the day of the event under the western overhang of the Downers Grove Main Street Train Station. Prices for tickets are $19.86 (because the center was founded in 1986) or two for $35 (in honor of the 35th anniversary).

The Downers Grove community is encouraged to buy tickets, make donations and find out more about the "Shop N Stroll" event by visiting www.communityadultdaycenter.org/about-2.
