Almost Home Foundation Dog and Cat Rescue of Schaumburg Launches Cause 4 Paws Campaign to Raise Money for the Addition of a Surgical and Medical Treatment Center, Including a Facility Expansion and Improvement

Almost Home Foundation, a non-profit, all-volunteer dog and cat rescue is conducting a Cause 4 Paws Campaign to raise funds for the addition of a surgical and medical treatment center, including an expansion and improvement of our facility. These exciting and much-needed changes will support the organization's vision and commitment to reducing the number of homeless and unwanted companion animals.

In 2020, Almost Home Foundation rescued and rehomed 1,106 cats and dogs thanks to the generosity and dedication of our amazing supporters. This remarkable achievement, however, resulted in medical expenses exceeding $300,000. Many of the animals we welcome into our rescue arrive with health issues that require considerable funds for treatment. It is important to emphasize that AHF does not discriminate based on health, breed, age, color or physical ability. Not turning away animals regardless of their medical needs is what we are all about. We are proud to say that we have rescued over 300 heartworm-positive dogs since 2018!

Adding a surgical and medical treatment center to our facility will allow for in-house sterilization and basic vetting. This will significantly reduce our medical costs and enable us to increase our rescue efforts as well as help animals needing more advanced care. In addition to lowering medical costs, performing in-house vetting will also expedite medical care for our rescued animals, simplify appointment scheduling, and eliminate the need to coordinate transportation to multiple local veterinarians. Our volunteers' time will be better utilized for training, socialization and enrichment activities rather than transportation services. The animals will experience less stress and benefit from the additional time our volunteers will have to enrich their quality of life while in our care.

In order to gain space for the addition of a medical center, we need to "raise the woof!" This second-story expansion will also provide us with the additional space that we so desperately need. We have outgrown our facility and lack the space to house the quantity of animals we rescue. Each incoming transport of animals is bittersweet; animals are saved, but our hearts break for those left behind due to lack of space.

Our goal is to raise $500,000 to complete this project. Tribute items such as pet ID tags for placement in a wall art design, dedication stars for a wall mural, and laser-engraved brick tiles are some of the items available for purchase. A dedication can be made in memory or in honor of a loved one, whether a pet or human family member. You can even recognize a business or organization. There are also opportunities for larger donation items such as personalized benches or room-naming privileges.
