Relay For Life returns Aug. 21 as a 'Luminaria' event in Roselle
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Northwest DuPage and Northwest Cook Counties kicks off this weekend in Roselle. The Relay For Life is re-imagined this year as a "Luminaria Event" around the path at Turner Pond. Join them on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Turner Park on Roselle Road and Devon Avenue, for a short program and Luminaria Ceremony from 7 to 9 p.m.
When the sun goes down at every American Cancer Society Relay For Life event, hope shines the brightest. During the ceremony, you'll see the luminarias decorated with names and messages to the people they're dedicated to.
Hundreds of luminaria will light the path to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has taken too much. They are lit at dusk in an emotional ceremony with each name read aloud, and a moment of silence in remembrance of those we've lost. This ceremony of light symbolizes the hope and perseverance with which we all continue to fight.
New this year, for any loved ones being honored that were or are first responders or members of the military, they will place an American flag next to their luminaria. Let them know in the message section when you purchase online.
The American Cancer Society needs your help. You can dedicate a luminaria for each $10 donation to the American Cancer Society. As we all know someone affected by cancer, please consider buying a few. Please share with your friends, family, relatives, neighbors, and co-workers.
Let's light up the Turner Park path and honor every life touched by cancer. Visit www.relayforlife.org/NWDuPageIL for more information or to purchase your luminaria bag.
When you make a donation for a luminaria it helps fund the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is the world's largest fundraising event to fight cancer, but it has been tough this past year due to COVID-19. Many fundraising events have been canceled or scaled down. You can help.
At Relay For Life, no donation is too small, each and every dollar counts. The funds raised at Relay For Life are used by the American Cancer Society groundbreaking cancer research, to find answers and better treatments, free rides to chemo, lodging near hospitals, provide information, support, and guidance to patients and families, advocacy, and can make a difference in communities like ours. Every dollar makes a difference. With every donation, you are helping the American Cancer Society save lives.
Hopefully, one day we may be able to avoid a cancer diagnosis altogether thanks to education, prevention, and early detection. Can you imagine a world without cancer? Join with the communities of Bartlett, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Elk Grove Village, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Itasca, Medinah, Roselle, and Streamwood.
