Naperville Art League names 2021 Public Art Competition winners

Naperville Art League's annual Public Art Competition themed "Abstract Symphony" drew 57 submissions of 2-D and 3-D art from DuPage County and beyond.

Winners were recently announced and included Best of Show for Sara Filip's "Birth in the Rose" photographic art; Award of Excellence to Cynthia Boudreau for her felted piece "Symphony la Mer;" and Award of Excellence Student Category to Rachel Lyons for "Songs by Any Other Name."

Other awards included four honorable mentions and six Director's Merit Awards. Honorable mentions go to Taiwo Owoniyi, Jennifer Hauser, Karen Sako, and Jim Braun.

In honor of the 60th anniversary, there are six Exhibit Director's Merit Awards: Karyl Silerzio, Jennifer Starchvill, Sally Monkus, Carl Valentine, Deanna Anatra, and Hannah Galactic.

The winner of the Viewer's Choice Award on March 19 is Shubra Jain #52 "The Strength of Musical Harmony."

Naperville Art League is a 501c3 non-profit volunteer-based organization whose members include artists, art enthusiasts and art collectors. Memberships are available. The League owns the Naperville Fine Art Center & Gallery at 508 N. Center St. in Naperville.

Currently on exhibit through April 30 is the member show "Retro." It will be followed in May by the theme, "Estuary."

Classes for all ages and skill levels are offered along with summer camps, monthly gallery shows, art auctions, and special events. The League also founded and hosts the annual Riverwalk Fine Art Fair held each September downtown Naperville near the Riverwalk. This is the league's 60th anniversary.

Gallery hours are: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
