Stay in and rock out with Downers Grove Park District's Virtual Concert Series

Following newly released guidelines established in the Restore Illinois Plan, the Downers Grove Park District has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 live summer concerts traditionally held at Fishel Park.

But don't worry! Residents can "stay in and rock out" with free concerts from their own home or backyard this summer!

The Downers Grove Park District's Virtual Summer Concert Series will feature seven live-streamed concerts hosted on Facebook at 7 p.m. every other Tuesday evening from May 26 to Aug. 18.

Follow the Downers Grove Park District and watch the concerts at www.facebook.com/DownersGroveParks/.

Darby Beasley, community events and sponsorship specialist, has coordinated the unique concert event and looks forward to providing an opportunity for families to kick back and relax this summer.

"The Downers Grove Park District's Summer Concert Series continues to grow as a summer staple in the community. In 2019, we welcomed over 22,000 attendees to enjoy live music at Fishel Park," Beasley said. "Although we cannot hold the concerts in person at the park this summer, we felt it was important to provide a memorable experience for families to enjoy at home during this challenging time."

Virtual Summer Concert Series Lineup:

• May 26: The Wayouts (1960s Garage Rock)

• June 9: Ethan Bell Band (Country)

• June 23: Rosie & the Rivets (Oldies/Rockabilly)

• July 7: Good Clean Fun (Pop)

• July 21: Dancing Queen (ABBA Tribute)

• Aug. 4: Sushi Roll (Pop/Cover)

• Aug. 18: JK & The Jam (Pop) - Sponsored by First Congregational United Church of Christ

To support local businesses, the Downers Grove Park District encourages residents to create a concert-like experience of their very own by ordering curbside or pickup options from local restaurants and breweries.

Beasley said, "Food and beverages offered at the Summer Concert Series add to the experience and create a Ravinia-like atmosphere right here in Downers Grove. We hope that families will support our local restaurants and breweries to create their own outdoor event at home."

Featured businesses include returning Summer Concert Series Partners: City Barbeque, Everyday's A Sundae, Well's Street Popcorn, Sarpino's Pizza and Alter Brewing Co. Additional Downers Grove restaurants and breweries offering curbside and pickup options is available at dgparks.org/concert-series.

On May 26, The Wayouts will make a donation to Downers Grove Area FISH Food Pantry & Community Services to assist those in need during this challenging time. If residents would like to join the band in also making a donation, visit www.downersgrovefish.org.

The Virtual Concert Series is hosted by the Downers Grove Park District and sponsored by BMO Harris Bank; Pro Electric, Inc.; Colleen Verbiscer with @Properties and First Congregational United Church of Christ. Sponsorship opportunities are available to help local businesses to connect with the community. To learn more, contact Darby Beasley at darbybeasley@dgparks.org.
