McHenry County Board of Health medical advisor steps down

The McHenry County Board of Health regretfully announces the resignation of Medical Advisor George W. Goodlow, M.D. Dr. Goodlow has provided medical supervision to the McHenry County Department of Health and medical advice to the board of health since January of 2014.

"Over the past four years Dr. Goodlow has been influential in guiding both the Board and the Department in matters requiring medical expertise." Said William Stinson, M.D., Board of Health President.

Dr. Stinson went on to add "I think I speak for all board members when I say we are grateful for Dr. Goodlow's service. He will be missed."

According to Susan Karras, R.N., Director of Nursing, "Dr. Goodlow began serving McHenry County residents in 2008 as a Well Child Clinic physician. Although this clinic has since been discontinued, he assisted the Department in this capacity until 2014." "Dr. Goodlow has been a champion for public health, in addition to his expertise, his jovial manner with clients and staff will be missed." A Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Goodlow earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1973. He is on staff at Northwest Community Hospital, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Chicago's Lurie Children's Hospital. Dr. Goodlow is a primary care pediatrician and has had a practice in Arlington Heights since 1976.

The contractual duties of the Medical Advisor include:

• Recommending and approving standing medical orders.

• Recommending clinical protocols and providing quarterly on-site supervision.

• Availability for consultation on matters with medical implications.

• Availability to Department management staff.

• Availability to the Department in the event of a Public Health Emergency.

• Available for consultation to the Board of Health.

• Providing communication to the public and media when requested.
