Fox Valley Presbyterian Church seeks Living Waters volunteers

On Sunday, Sept. 30, Fox Valley Presbyterian Church in Geneva will hold an informational meeting about one of its largest missions, Living Waters for the World.

The meeting, to be held in the church's great hall at 11:30 a.m., is open to the general public and will provide information to prospective leaders, volunteers, and fundraisers who may want to support this mission work. Lunch will be served for all participants.

Living Waters for the World is an international Presbyterian mission that provides water purification systems to communities that lack access to clean, safe water.

Fox Valley Presbyterian Church has participated for the past 11 years and has in place nine water purification systems in Guatemala - and these systems are making a huge difference in the lives of communities.

"Living Waters really saves lives," according to team leader Fred Filiaggi. "During our last trip, one of our partners in Guatemala told us that there have been no infant deaths in the three years since they've had the water purification system in place. And there has been a significant reduction in cases of dysentery and diarrhea, so children are able to be in school every day."

Now, Fox Valley Presbyterian Church is exploring next steps with this mission, and welcomes interest from other churches, organizations, and individuals who might want to volunteer. Individuals need not be members of the Geneva church to go on a Living Waters for the World mission trip.

A week-long trip to Guatemala is tentatively planned for early next year to check on existing systems and mentor volunteers in preparation for future trips.
